End of an Era: Volkswagen Golf Wagon Discontinued in Australia
End of an Era: Volkswagen Golf Wagon Discontinued in Australia
Will the electric ID.7 Shooting Brake fill the void left by the Golf wagon in Australia?
Another affordable wagon bites the dust in Australia as Volkswagen confirms the discontinuation of the Golf and Golf R wagons. Prospective customers will need to find a vehicle in dealer stock as these models will no longer be available to order. However, those who have already placed their orders will still receive their vehicles.
Joining the ranks of the Ford Focus, Renault Megane, and Holden Astra wagons, the Volkswagen Golf and Golf R wagons have bid farewell to the Australian market. This leaves only a few options for buyers in the compact wagon segment, namely the Skoda Octavia, Subaru WRX Sportswagon, and Peugeot 308 SW.
Volkswagen Australia’s managing director, Michael Szaniecki, explained that this move was a deliberate decision to create room for other models within their dealerships. With the introduction of the ID series, including the ID.4, ID.3, and ID.5, it no longer made sense to have multiple wagon options alongside the Arteon and Passat.
Unfortunately, the discontinuation of the Golf wagon also means that you cannot currently order any new Volkswagen wagon in Australia, as the Passat and Arteon Shooting Brake have also been axed. However, there may still be hope for wagon enthusiasts, as Volkswagen has not ruled out the possibility of introducing the electric ID.7 Shooting Brake to the Australian market.
The Golf wagon has been a popular choice in Australia since its debut in 2010, with the Mk V model. The Golf R wagon, known for its sporty performance, became a fixture in 2015 with the launch of the Mk 7 model.
- Ford Focus, Renault Megane, and Holden Astra wagons have also been discontinued
- Skoda Octavia, Subaru WRX Sportswagon, and Peugeot 308 SW are the only compact wagons still available
- Volkswagen Australia’s decision to leave space within dealerships for other models
- Possibility of the electric ID.7 Shooting Brake being introduced in the future
With the discontinuation of the Golf and Golf R wagons, Australian buyers will need to explore other options in the compact wagon segment. Volkswagen’s decision to make room for new models reflects the changing landscape of the automotive industry, particularly with the shift towards electric vehicles. As we bid farewell to these beloved wagons, we can’t help but wonder what the future holds for Volkswagen’s wagon lineup in Australia.
