Next-Generation Nissan Patrol Spotted Testing in the Middle East
Can you imagine the power and performance of the next-generation Nissan Patrol with its rumored twin-turbo six-cylinder engine?
Video footage has emerged of the highly anticipated next-generation Nissan Patrol undergoing tests in the Middle East. The prototype, captured by Motoring.Qa, showcases some exciting updates, including new tail lights and slimline LED headlights. While Nissan is remaining tight-lipped on the official reveal date for the Y63 Patrol, automotive enthusiasts are buzzing with anticipation.
Overseas, Infiniti has been spotted testing a new version of their QX80, which is a more upscale variant of the Patrol. This highly anticipated model is set to make its debut in mid-2024.
The upcoming QX80 is rumored to ditch its V8 engine in favor of a more fuel-efficient twin-turbo six-cylinder engine, delivering an impressive 335kW of power. If the Patrol follows suit, it would be following in the footsteps of its rival, the Toyota LandCruiser 300 Series, which also dropped its V8 powertrain.
Both the Patrol and QX80 share a similar boxy body shape, with the main differences being cosmetic updates such as headlights, tail lights, and interior design. The Y62 Patrol, which has been on the market since 2010, is also known as the Armada in some regions, including the US.
While the left-hand drive Armada received a recent interior update, including a new 12.3-inch infotainment system, wireless charging, and compatibility with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, the right-hand drive Patrol has retained its outdated 2010 interior. This means it lacks modern features like Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
According to a report from Nikkei Asia, Nissan has halted the development of internal combustion engines for the European market and will gradually phase out development in China and Japan as well. However, the brand will continue limited development of petrol engines for the US market, particularly for pickup trucks. Nissan will also focus on the development of new hybrid powertrain technology.
