Nissan to Launch Qashqai e-Power Hybrid in Australia
Will the Qashqai e-Power hybrid revolutionize the Australian market with its impressive performance and eco-friendly features?
Nissan is set to introduce the highly-anticipated Qashqai e-Power hybrid to the Australian market, with orders opening soon and the first cars expected to arrive in early 2024. The online ordering process, successfully used for the Z Nismo, will be utilized to assign the initial batch of vehicles.
Nissan Australia is getting ready to launch the highly-anticipated Qashqai e-Power hybrid in the Australian market. Orders for this hybrid crossover will be open soon, and the first cars are scheduled to arrive in early 2024. To assign the initial batch of vehicles, Nissan will once again utilize the successful online ordering process that was first introduced with the Z Nismo model.
This online ordering process has been well-received by consumers as it allows them to choose their desired dealer and the color of the vehicle they want. Both customers who were interested in the Z Nismo and dealers who handle the car delivery have given positive feedback about this process. Mr. Adam Paterson, the managing director of Nissan Australia, emphasized the success of this method and mentioned that it will be followed for the Qashqai e-Power as well.
While the Nismo model was produced in limited quantities and only 100 units were available in Australia, Mr. Paterson assured CarExpert that the Qashqai e-Power will not face the same supply constraints at launch. This is great news for customers who have already shown significant interest in the hybrid crossover.
Although the pricing for the Qashqai e-Power has not been announced yet, we do know that it will be offered in the up-spec ST-L and Ti trim levels in Australia. It is expected that the e-Power version will have a price premium of around $3000-$4000 compared to the petrol-powered Qashqai models. Currently, the Qashqai ST-L starts at $42,190 and the flagship Ti begins at $47,390 before on-road costs.
The Qashqai e-Power hybrid boasts impressive power with a front-mounted electric motor that delivers 140kW and 330Nm. This electric motor is supported by a 2.3kWh lithium-ion battery pack. Additionally, there is a 116kW 1.5-litre turbocharged three-cylinder petrol engine that works alongside the electric motor. Instead of directly driving the wheels, the petrol engine is connected to a motor-generator and an inverter.
Unlike a conventional transmission or CVT, this setup allows the petrol engine to charge the lithium-ion battery pack, which then powers the drive motors. While the Qashqai e-Power does not have an extensive electric-only range, the petrol engine can directly supply energy to the electric motors when necessary, such as when the throttle is fully engaged. This innovative hybrid system combines the benefits of electric power with the convenience of a petrol engine.
