BYD Australia to Unveil Pricing for Tesla Model 3-Rivalling Seal Sedan
Will the BYD Seal be able to give the Tesla Model 3 a run for its money?
BYD Australia is gearing up to announce the pricing for its upcoming Seal sedan, which will compete directly with Tesla’s popular Model 3. Luke Todd, the managing director of BYD’s local distributor EVDirect, recently shared this news on LinkedIn. As the company prepares for the big reveal on October 17, car enthusiasts are eagerly awaiting to see how the Seal will stack up against its renowned competitor. With the Tesla Model 3 receiving its own recent update, the pricing and specification details for BYD’s Seal are highly anticipated.
While the official pricing for the BYD Seal is yet to be disclosed, industry experts predict that it will be in the same ballpark as the Tesla Model 3. With the Model 3’s recent update, prices now range from $61,900 to $71,900 before on-road costs, making it a popular choice among electric vehicle enthusiasts. As for the BYD Seal, it is expected to offer competitive pricing to attract potential buyers.
BYD has confirmed three variants of the Seal for the Australian market. The entry-level Standard Dynamic Range comes with a single-motor rear-wheel drive powertrain, generating 150kW of power. It boasts an impressive 0-100km/h sprint time of 7.5 seconds and offers a claimed WLTP range of 460km. Moving up the range, the mid-spec Premium Extended Range delivers 230kW of power to the rear wheels, allowing it to accelerate from 0-100km/h in just 5.9 seconds. Its WLTP range is extended to up to 570km. Finally, the flagship Performance AWD variant packs a punch with 390kW of power, thanks to its 160kW front motor and 230kW rear motor. It can go from 0-100km/h in a thrilling 3.8 seconds and offers a WLTP range of 520km.
The Seal’s design and performance capabilities are truly impressive. Stretching 4775mm long, it provides ample space with 402L of boot space and an additional 53L under the bonnet. Its sleek design contributes to its aerodynamic efficiency, boasting an incredibly low drag coefficient of just 0.219 Cd. To put this into perspective, the Mercedes-Benz EQS, known for its aerodynamic design, has a drag coefficient of 0.20 Cd. The BYD Seal is set to turn heads on the road.
In terms of technology and safety, the Seal is equipped with BYD’s all-new e-Platform 3.0 electric vehicle platform, featuring Cell-to-Body (CTB) technology. This integration of BYD’s Blade battery into the vehicle’s structure enhances rigidity and safety. The Seal also offers a maximum DC charging power of 150kW, allowing for a quick charge time of just 26 minutes. Its double wishbone suspension, multi-link set-up, and advanced control systems ensure a smooth and responsive driving experience. The DiSus Intelligent Body Control System and Intelligence Torque Adaption Control (iTAC) technology further enhance the vehicle’s performance, traction, and handling.
Inside the Seal, drivers and passengers will find a luxurious and high-tech interior. The highlight is a rotating 15.6-inch multimedia touchscreen display, accompanied by a digital instrument cluster. The infotainment system includes an intelligent voice assistant, while the BYD App allows for remote control of various functions, such as climate control. Additionally, the Seal features advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) as standard, providing peace of mind on the road.
The BYD Seal is just the beginning of the brand’s expansion in Australia. It joins the Atto 3 SUV and Dolphin hatchback in BYD’s lineup. The company has already confirmed plans for a mid-sized SUV and an electrified ute, both set to launch in 2024. With its strong focus on electric vehicles and innovative technology, BYD aims to establish itself as a key player in the Australian automotive market.
