Volkswagen Australia Makes Changes to Tiguan Line-Up for 2024

Earlier this year, Volkswagen unveiled its upcoming next-generation Tiguan, set to arrive in Australia as a 2025 model. However, until then, the current-generation Tiguan will still be available for purchase.

For 2024, the current Tiguan Elegance and R-Line will be equipped with blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert, features that were temporarily removed in 2022 due to component shortages.

In addition, the Elegance and R-Line models will now come standard with a power tailgate, a feature that used to cost an extra $600. Customers buying the Life variant also have the option to add a power tailgate for $600.

As for pricing, the base model 110TSI Life will start at $43,990 before on-road costs, which is $1100 more than the previous year. The top-of-the-line Tiguan R will see the highest price increase of $2600, bringing its starting price to $73,709 before on-road costs. However, the Tiguan R now includes a Harman Kardon sound system as standard, a feature that used to cost an additional $1100.

When it comes to drivetrains, the 110TSI Life is powered by a 1.4-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine, while the 132TSI Life and 235TSI Tiguan R are equipped with a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine. The 162TSI Elegance and R-Line models also feature a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine. All 132TSI and 162TSI variants come with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and Volkswagen’s 4Motion all-wheel-drive system, while the 110TSI Life has a six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and front-wheel drive.

In terms of fuel efficiency, the Tiguan 110TSI Life consumes 7.7 litres per 100km, while the 132TSI Life and 235TSI Tiguan R use 8.8 litres per 100km. The Elegance and R-Line models with the 162TSI engine have a fuel consumption rate of 8.5 litres per 100km. All models require 95 RON premium unleaded fuel.

When it comes to size, the Tiguan measures 4509mm long, 1839mm wide, and 1675mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2681mm. The high-performance Tiguan R is slightly larger at 4520mm long, 1859mm wide, and 1668mm tall.

Safety is a top priority for Volkswagen, and the 2024 Tiguan comes with a range of standard safety features such as autonomous emergency braking, lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control, and front and rear parking sensors. The Elegance, R-Line, and R models are also equipped with blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert.

In terms of standard equipment, the base Life model includes features such as automatic LED headlights, tri-zone climate control, an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and satellite navigation. The Elegance adds even more luxury with matrix LED headlights, an adaptive chassis control system, and a 9.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The R-Line and R models come with unique exterior styling, larger alloy wheels, and a 10-speaker Harman Kardon sound system.

Optional packages are available for customers looking to customize their Tiguan. The Luxury package for the Life model adds comfort sport front seats, leather upholstery, and a panoramic glass sunroof. The Sound and Vision package for the Elegance and R-Line models includes a surround-view camera, head-up display, and the Harman Kardon sound system. A panoramic glass sunroof is also available as a standalone option for these models.

In terms of colours, the Life, Elegance, and R-Line models offer choices such as Pure White, Dolphin Grey Metallic, Night Shade Blue Metallic, Reflex Silver Metallic, and Deep Black Pearl. The Tiguan R comes in Pure White, Dolphin Grey Metallic, Lapiz Blue Premium Metallic, Reflex Silver Metallic, and Deep Black Pearl, with no additional cost for any colour.

To wrap it up, Volkswagen Australia’s 2024 Tiguan line-up brings some exciting changes, including the removal of diesel variants, the addition of safety tech, and updated pricing. With its sleek design, advanced features, and range of options, the Tiguan continues to be a strong competitor in the medium SUV segment.
