Genesis GV70 Set to Receive Mid-Life Update in 2024
Will the GV70’s mid-life update propel it to the top of the luxury SUV segment?
The popular Genesis GV70 will undergo a visual overhaul in 2024 to match the recent updates made to the G80 and GV80 models. An upcoming video from Shorts Car on YouTube offers a sneak peek of the heavily camouflaged SUV. While an official reveal date hasn’t been announced, it is expected to happen in the second quarter of 2024, paving the way for an Australian launch either later that year or early in 2025.
The GV70’s headlights will feature a fresh design that incorporates multi-cube LED elements, reminiscent of the G90 and GV80 models. This new iteration is expected to employ Genesis’ innovative Micro Lens Array technology, ensuring a striking and distinctive lighting signature.
The front grille of the GV70 will also see changes. It will sport a larger size and a dark chrome finish, enhancing its sporty appearance. Additionally, the restyled front bumper will showcase larger air intakes with an eye-catching ‘G-matrix’ pattern, matching the grille.
To further enhance its visual appeal, the GV70 will receive new wheel designs. However, what sets each powertrain apart are the brake calipers. According to Shorts Car, the 2.5T variant will boast bronze calipers, while the diesel version will have silver ones, and the 3.5T variant will flaunt red calipers.
While the rear of the GV70 seems to retain its familiar tail light design, there are noticeable changes to the shape of the exhaust outlets. These alterations contribute to an updated and more modern look for the SUV.
Moving inside, the dashboard of the GV70 prototype remains concealed. However, reports suggest that the updated model will feature the impressive 27-inch OLED display found in the recently updated G80 and GV80.
Minor interior updates are also expected, including the addition of memory functionality for the front passenger seats and updated second-row climate controls. Furthermore, the centre tunnel is said to receive stylish chrome-like finishes that extend from the centre console to the dashboard, similar to the GV80.
In terms of the electrified variant, a separate sighting of the Electrified GV70 by HealerTV revealed similarities in the headlight design to its combustion-powered counterpart. However, the Electrified GV70 appears to have blue LEDs on the lower strip, distinguishing it as the electric version. It also showcases refreshed front and rear bumpers along with new wheels.
Speculation suggests that there won’t be any major changes to the electric powertrain. However, slight ‘fine-tuning’ could be expected, such as the potential addition of a higher density battery pack to increase the electric range.
The possibility of discontinuing the diesel option for the GV70 has also been raised, following the footsteps of its larger sibling, the GV80. Genesis Australia has already removed the diesel variant from its local lineup.
The Genesis GV70 continues to be a popular choice among Australian buyers. In fact, it has been the top-selling vehicle for Genesis in the country. From January to November 2023, a total of 1122 GV70 units were sold, surpassing the combined sales of all other Genesis models during the same period. While it may not have reached the sales figures of heavyweight competitors like Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and Lexus, the GV70 has easily outperformed the Alfa Romeo Stelvio, Maserati Grecale, Land Rover Discovery Sport, and Range Rover Evoque.
The GV70’s upcoming update promises to further solidify its position in the Australian market, offering refreshed visuals and potential enhancements to both its combustion and electric powertrains.
