Aston Martin Faces Change in Leadership Once Again
Will Aston Martin be able to find stable leadership and solidify its position in the industry?
The British supercar manufacturer, Aston Martin, is about to undergo another shift in leadership. After less than a year in the top position, 78-year-old Amedeo Felisa is reportedly set to depart. Chairman Lawrence Stroll is now on the lookout for a replacement, reaching out to current and former heads of luxury automotive brands.
The revolving door of Aston Martin’s CEOs began in 2020 when Andy Palmer left the company after Lawrence Stroll took over. Then, Tobias Moers, the former boss of Mercedes-AMG, assumed control of the company for two years. Rumors suggested that strategic differences between Moers and Stroll resulted in his departure. CAR Magazine reported that Moers aimed to establish a development base for the company in Germany, while Stroll preferred to invest in a new hub in northern Italy.
After Moers, Amedeo Felisa, the former CEO of Ferrari, took the reins at Aston Martin. With his experience at the Italian supercar manufacturer from 2008 to 2016, Felisa brought valuable expertise to the table. Additionally, Roberto Fedeli, who led the development of the LaFerrari hypercar, was appointed as the chief technical officer.
In early 2020, Lawrence Stroll gained control of Aston Martin together with the Yew Tree Consortium. Subsequently, Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF), China’s Zhejiang Geely Holding Group, and Lucid, an American electric vehicle manufacturer supported by the PIF, acquired a significant number of shares in the British company. Stroll’s acquisition of the BWT Racing Point Formula One team in 2018 led to the team rebranding as the Aston Martin Aramco Formula One Team, marking the return of the British marque to Grand Prix racing after a hiatus since 1959.
