What do you think of the upcoming 2024 Subaru WRX Club Spec’s aggressive design and limited power increase?

Subaru is set to release a special edition of its WRX sedan in Australia, featuring an aggressive design but maintaining the same power. The limited edition 2024 Subaru WRX Club Spec will be available exclusively as a sedan with a six-speed manual transmission. It will come equipped with Brembo brakes, Recaro seats, 19-inch wheels, and a larger rear spoiler. Despite its fierce appearance, no extra power has been mentioned, suggesting that it will stick to the standard turbocharged 2.4-litre flat-four engine with 202kW of power and 350Nm of torque.

Details about the pricing of the 2024 Subaru WRX Club Spec are currently unknown. The current WRX sedan range’s highest-priced model is the tS automatic, which costs $57,990 before on-road costs.

Subaru has only released one image of the vehicle, emphasizing that it is a representation and may not reflect the final product. The design bears a striking resemblance to the North American WRX TR, which was unveiled last year and shares the same wheels, Brembo brakes, and Recaro seats. However, the giant wing seen on the WRX TR is absent from the Club Spec.

In the US-market WRX TR, the Brembo braking system consists of six-piston front and two-piston rear calipers finished in red, larger brake pads and rotors, and an upsized brake master cylinder. These enhanced brakes are concealed behind 19-inch wheels fitted with Bridgestone Potenza S007 tires. It is uncertain if the Australian-market Club Spec will feature similar mechanical upgrades.

The Club Spec will join other manual WRX models in receiving Subaru’s EyeSight suite of active safety and driver assist technology. Similar to the manual BRZ, the three-pedal WRX will benefit from autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, and leading vehicle departure alert. These additions address the significant disparity in standard safety features between manual and automatic WRX variants.

2022 saw the discontinuation of the WRX STI, the flagship performance variant of the WRX. However, Subaru Australia’s managing director, Blair Read, stated that the STI engineers are still active and working on various developments that will impact all of Subaru’s models.
