Tesla Announces Australian Tour Dates for Cybertruck Showcase
Only time will tell.
Tesla has revealed the dates and locations for the Australian leg of its Cybertruck tour, despite uncertainties about its local launch and compliance with Australian regulations. The highly-anticipated electric pickup truck will be showcased at four Tesla showrooms in New South Wales.
To generate buzz for the upcoming tour, Tesla drove the angular Cybertruck around famous Sydney landmarks, including Bondi Beach.
Interest in the vehicle is evident from the numerous sightings shared by Tesla enthusiasts on social media.
However, the Cybertruck’s non-compliance with Australian Design Rules (ADRs) and its controversial design pose challenges to its local launch.
In addition, the Cybertruck’s left-hand drive configuration makes it ineligible for registration as a road vehicle in Australia.
Last year, Tesla ceased production of right-hand drive models like the Model S and Model X due to low demand.
The company faced a setback with the facelifted Model 3 sedan, as it violated ADRs by lacking a suitable middle top tether for child seat installation. This resulted in a recall and stop-sale.
While Tesla initially allowed Australian customers to place a deposit for the Cybertruck, the option was removed in 2021, leaving only an information page on the website.

- Tesla Chatswood: 6 – 12 May 2024

The Tesla Cybertruck’s Australian tour promises to generate excitement among enthusiasts, even as regulatory and design challenges persist.
