BMW Australia has revealed the pricing and specifications for the iX2 electric SUV, offering two trim levels. With deliveries set to begin in 2024, the iX2 xDrive30 will be available first, followed by the entry-level iX2 eDrive20. Both models fall under the Luxury Car Tax threshold for fuel-efficient vehicles and are exempt from Fringe Benefit Tax for fleet operators. With these additions, BMW Australia will have a total of 15 all-electric variants across seven models next year.
The iX2 xDrive30 will be the first model to arrive in Australia, with deliveries starting in the first quarter of 2024. It is priced from $85,700 before on-roads, making it $800 more expensive than the iX1 xDrive30.
Following the iX2 xDrive30, the entry-level iX2 eDrive20 will be available in mid-2024, starting at $82,900 before on-roads. This is $4000 more than the iX1 eDrive20.
Both the iX2 xDrive30 and iX2 eDrive20 will join BMW Australia’s lineup of electric vehicles that fall under the Luxury Car Tax threshold and are exempt from Fringe Benefit Tax. These models will be accompanied by the iX1 eDrive20, iX1 xDrive30, i4 eDrive35, and iX3 M Sport.
BMW Australia aims to have at least one in five of their new vehicles equipped with an all-electric powertrain by the end of 2024. By 2025, this number is expected to rise to one in four, and by 2026, one in three. The company also plans to have more than two million EVs on the road by the end of 2025.
The iX2 xDrive30 is equipped with a dual-motor all-wheel drive system, delivering 230kW of power and 494Nm of torque. It can accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in just 5.6 seconds. On the other hand, the iX2 eDrive20 features a single front-mounted electric motor producing 150kW of power and 247Nm of torque. Both variants come with a 67kWh battery pack.
According to WLTP testing, the iX2 eDrive20 has an electric range of up to 477km, while the iX2 xDrive30 offers up to 449km of range. Both models can be fast-charged at up to 130kW, allowing for a quick recharge from 10 to 80 percent in less than 30 minutes. They can also be AC charged at up to 22kW.
As for the dimensions, the iX2 measures 4554mm in length, 1845mm in width, and 1560mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2692mm. With the second row upright, it provides 525 litres of boot capacity, expandable to 1400 litres with the seats folded down. The optional tow bar allows for a braked towing capacity of 1200kg.
BMW Australia covers its EV lineup with a five-year, unlimited-kilometre new vehicle warranty. Additionally, the iX2’s high-voltage battery is backed by an eight-year or 160,000km warranty. Service pricing for the iX2 is yet to be confirmed.
When it comes to safety, the iX2 xDrive30 comes with a range of features including Driving Assistant Professional, Adaptive Cruise Control, Blind Spot Monitoring, and Surround-View Cameras. However, crash testing for the iX2 has not been conducted by ANCAP or Euro NCAP yet. The BMW X1, which shares similarities with the iX2, has received a five-star safety rating.
Standard equipment for the iX2 xDrive30 includes 19-inch alloy wheels, Adaptive LED headlights, BMW Iconic Glow illuminated kidney grille, M Sport package, and a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system. Optional enhancements such as metallic paint, panoramic glass sunroof, and a Harman/Kardon surround-sound system are also available.
The 2024 BMW iX2 is available in several exterior paint colours, with additional costs for certain options.
