Chery, the Chinese brand, is poised to further expand its SUV lineup in Australia with the introduction of the Omoda C9. The brand has already confirmed the launch of the Tiggo 8 Pro Max in May 2024. Chery is already planning to introduce a spinoff brand, Jaecoo, in Australia in the second half of 2024.
The approval documents reveal that the Omoda C9 will be available in two variants: one with front-wheel drive and one with all-wheel drive.
Both variants will feature a 183kW turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine paired with an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
In terms of dimensions, the Omoda C9 measures 4774mm in length, 1932mm in width, and 1686mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2800mm.
The SUV will weigh between 1790kg and 1865kg and will ride on 20-inch alloy wheels.
While a complete equipment list has not been provided, the Omoda C9 offers a range of luxurious features based on its availability in China.
These include dual 12.3-inch screens, power-adjustable front seats finished in Nappa leather with heating, ventilation, and massage functions, LED headlights, a panoramic sunroof, and an augmented reality head-up display.
The Omoda C9 also boasts a Sony sound system with either eight or 14 speakers, depending on the variant.
In terms of safety, the SUV comes equipped with a comprehensive suite of features such as adaptive cruise control, a surround-view camera, autonomous emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, lane-keep assist, and rear cross-traffic assist.
