Honda Australia Sticks with Five-Year Warranty Despite Limited Offers
Will Honda Australia’s new loyalty program revolutionize warranty rewards for customers?
Despite sporadically introducing limited-availability extended warranties, Honda Australia has no plans to permanently extend its standard five-year coverage. Other car brands have moved to longer warranty coverage, but Honda aims to provide value to customers in line with market trends. Let’s delve into the details.
Honda Australia does not plan to permanently extend its standard five-year warranty, despite occasionally offering seven- and eight-year warranties in recent months. Kia, MG, and GWM are among the car brands that have moved to longer warranty coverage, even on their cheaper vehicles.
Honda has recently offered limited-time extended warranties on select models. From January to March, certain vehicles were covered by a seven-year/unlimited-kilometer warranty and roadside assistance package. This offer was later extended to include the HR-V and 2023 and 2024 CR-V models, providing eight years of coverage for vehicles purchased by June 30, 2024.
However, Honda Australia director Carolyn McMahon has confirmed that these extended warranty offers will not become permanent, despite the brand’s increasing prices. Instead, Honda aims to provide value to customers based on market trends. Seasonal value-add offers, similar to the one from January to March, may be introduced in the future.
McMahon emphasized that the recent offers were not aimed at boosting sales before the end of the Japanese financial year. Honda Australia has transitioned to a fixed-price, agency sales model and has moved away from pushing volume. McMahon did not provide details on whether Honda could adopt a warranty model similar to Mitsubishi Australia’s, which extends coverage by 12 months for each timely vehicle service, up to ten years.
However, McMahon hinted at an upcoming loyalty program that will reward customers in the warranty space. While no further details were revealed, Honda will announce the program in the near future.
