Suzuki Australia has quietly launched two new versions of its S-Cross compact SUV, offering front-wheel drive options for the first time. With reduced prices starting from $39,990 drive-away, this is great news for potential buyers.
The latest additions to the Suzuki S-Cross range in Australia come in the form of two front-wheel drive models. This marks the first time that the new S-Cross has been made available without all-wheel drive. The pricing for the new models starts at $39,990 drive-away, which is a significant saving compared to the previous launch pricing of $40,490 before on-road costs.
The new S-Cross and S-Cross Plus variants offer similar specifications to the existing AllGrip and AllGrip Prestige models, but without the all-wheel drive functionality. The main difference between the Plus variant and the Prestige is the absence of a panoramic sunroof.
All versions of the 2024 Suzuki S-Cross are powered by the company’s reliable 1.4-litre Boosterjet four-cylinder turbo petrol engine. With outputs of 103kW and 220Nm, this engine delivers a punchy performance. The turbocharged engine is paired with a six-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters as standard. Front-wheel drive models, namely the S-Cross and S-Cross Plus, send power to the front wheels, while the AllGrip versions feature an on-demand all-wheel drive system with four modes.
In addition to the new front-wheel drive models, Suzuki Australia has also confirmed the arrival of the S-Cross Full Hybrid in 2024. This hybrid variant will feature a 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine, a 140V lithium-ion battery, a motor generator unit, and 12V lithium-ion and lead-acid batteries. With quoted outputs of 85kW and 138Nm, the S-Cross Full Hybrid is expected to offer improved fuel efficiency compared to the petrol-only versions.
The dimensions of the Suzuki S-Cross remain the same, with a length of 4305mm, width of 1785mm, height of 1585mm, and wheelbase of 2600mm. The ground clearance stands at 175mm, while the cargo capacity ranges from 430L to 1230L, providing ample space for all your needs.
When it comes to servicing and warranty, the S-Cross offers a generous five-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty. However, if the vehicle is used for commercial purposes, such as goods transportation or rideshare, the warranty is limited to 160,000km. The purchase also includes five years of roadside assistance and up to five years of capped-price servicing. Scheduled maintenance is required every 12 months or 10,000 kilometres, which is slightly shorter than the industry standard.
In terms of safety, the Suzuki S-Cross has a five-star ANCAP safety rating, which was initially awarded in 2013. However, the rating has since expired as of June 2022. Standard safety features include six airbags, adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking (AEB), blind-spot monitoring, lane departure warning, parking sensors, rear cross-traffic alert, reversing camera, and weaving alert. The S-Cross Plus variant adds 360-degree cameras for enhanced visibility.
When it comes to standard equipment, both the S-Cross and S-Cross AllGrip models come with 17-inch alloy wheels, automatic LED headlights, daytime running lights, front fog lights, rear privacy glass, keyless entry and start, rain-sensing wipers, roof rails, a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with satellite navigation, wired Apple CarPlay, wired Android Auto, DAB radio, a 6-speaker sound system, dual-zone climate control, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. The S-Cross Plus variant includes premium features like 17-inch polished alloy wheels, a 9.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless Apple CarPlay, a 360-degree camera system, and a 7-speaker sound system with leather-accented upholstery.
