Genesis Unveils New Coupe SUV to Rival BMW X6
Will the Genesis GV80 Coupe dethrone the BMW X6 as the ultimate luxury coupe SUV?
Genesis, the Korean luxury brand, has introduced an updated version of its BMW X5 competitor and revealed a new coupe SUV body style in its GV80 range. With the debut of the GV80 Coupe, Genesis aims to compete directly with the popular BMW X6. The luxury brand has set its sights on the Australian market, planning to launch the updated GV80 range, including the new coupe SUV, in the second quarter of 2024.
The GV80 Coupe measures 4965mm long, 1975mm wide, and 1710mm tall with a wheelbase of 2995mm, making it slightly longer and lower than the wagon variant.
The luggage space behind the second row has been reduced from 735L to 644L in the GV80 Coupe.
Equipped with a new 3.5-litre twin-turbo V6 engine with a 48V electric supercharger, the GV80 Coupe delivers impressive power, generating 309kW at 5800rpm and 549Nm of torque between 1300 and 4500rpm.
This advanced powertrain, borrowed from the flagship G90 sedan, utilizes twin turbochargers and compresses air twice to provide exceptional acceleration response at low and medium speeds.
The GV80 Coupe will exclusively offer this powerful engine, while both the GV80 and GV80 Coupe will also feature the existing turbo 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine and twin-turbo 3.5-litre V6 engine.
The GV80 Coupe boasts unique features such as Active Sound Design, allowing it to replicate the exhilarating sound of a large-displacement sports coupe’s exhaust. It also offers a Flex Brake feature for customized brake pedal responsiveness.
Genesis has equipped the new GV80 with a Sports+ drive mode, Launch Control, and a display function that provides real-time information on oil temperature, torque, and turbo pressure.
All GV80 models, including the coupe variant, come with Preview Electronic Control Suspension, which continually adjusts damping based on the road conditions.
Exterior upgrades include a refreshed crest grille, new headlight design, restyled front bumper, and unique rear bumper treatment with quad exhaust outlets for the GV80 Coupe.
The interior of the GV80 has been enhanced with a new 27-inch OLED display, redesigned transmission dial, and improved pedal design and crash pads.
The coupe models feature carbon interior garnishes and seats with unique patterns and stitching. Additional available features include quad-zone climate control, heated armrests, a fingerprint authentication system, and a Bang & Olufsen sound system.
Genesis has also upgraded the suite of active safety and driver assist features in the GV80, including Lane Following Assist, Remote Smart Parking Assist, and Highway Driving Assist.
The GV80 range will be offered in a variety of colors and interior colorway options.
Genesis has achieved significant global success with over 170,000 GV80s sold since its introduction in 2020. The luxury brand has recently reached a milestone of over a million sales since its establishment in 2015.
Genesis has announced updated pricing and specifications for the GV80 in Australia, discontinuing the entry-level 2.5T powertrain to focus on higher-end models.
